Marquis Faubourg St-Honoré
Discreet private mansion — classical bones with a contemporary luxury finish. Feels more like staying in a very well-appointed Parisian pied-à-terre than a hotel. No bar open to walk-ins, no restaurant, no pool. Just 15 rooms, a private gym, and exceptionally quiet corridors.
Request a suite with a terrace (Superior Suites 11/21, Master Suites 12/22) if you want outdoor space — these are the only smoking-designated rooms too.
Why It Matters
One of only 15 suites in the actual building where La Fayette died. Michele Bönan's first Paris project. Awarded one Michelin Key, holds Relais & Châteaux membership and Clef Verte (Green Key) certification. The 18th-century vaulted ceiling gym and in-suite spa treatments are genuine perks. The architect Antoine Mazin, who built this mansion for Louis XV, also built the Hôtel de Charost (now the British Embassy) and Hôtel Matignon (the French PM's residence).
An 18th-century private mansion on a quiet street between the Élysée Palace and Place de la Concorde, converted into a 15-suite hotel in 2013. The Marquis de La Fayette actually lived here from 1827 until his death in 1834 — the building is the only one in the area to survive Baron Haussmann's 19th-century renovation of Paris. Florentine designer Michele Bönan (also behind JK Place Capri) did the interiors: Carrara marble bathrooms, natural oak panels, authentic Louis XVI marble fireplaces, and Brazilian Ipé hardwood floors throughout. Think intimate and genuinely historical, not grand or showy.
