Mas de Peint
Unpretentious luxury farmhouse. Provençal colours — pink Roussillon, almond green — weathered stone, saddles on walls. Equal parts country house and genuine working ranch. No sense of performance.
Book the Junior Suite Elegance Atelier for the fireplace and kitchenette — great for shoulder season stays
Why It Matters
One of the only places in France where you can ride alongside Camargue gardians sorting bulls in the morning, eat a locavore 4-course dinner cooked in front of you in the evening, and sleep in a 400-year-old farmhouse in between. The Bon family has farmed this land for generations — the hotel is their side project, which is exactly what makes it special.
A 17th-century stone farmhouse turned 5-star boutique hotel, sitting at the heart of a 550-hectare working estate in the Camargue. The Bon family raises semi-wild long-horned bulls for the local Course à la Cocarde tradition, grows organic rice, and also runs this hotel — all at the same time. Think flagstone floors, exposed pine beams, antique furniture alongside modern art, and a kitchen where dinner is served right in front of the chef. There's no front desk. Just family.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Guided tour of the estate and surrounding Camargue in a 4x4 vehicle with a native guide. Covers the secret, off-road parts of the Camargue not accessible by bike or on foot. Great for spotting flamingos, wild horses, and the region's unique salt flat landscapes.
Guided birdwatching tour with a specialist ornithological guide in the preserved wetlands and marshes surrounding the estate. Over 350 species of sedentary and migratory birds live in or pass through the area. Best done before 8am in summer.
For confident, experienced riders only. Join the estate's gardians (Camargue cowboys) in the practical work of sorting bulls on the ranch. Advance booking required — minimum 24 hours, subject to availability.
Guided rides across the 500-hectare estate through rice paddies and pastures on the famous white Camargue horses. Experienced riders can join the gardians to participate in sorting bulls — a genuine working ranch experience, not a tourist performance. For beginners through to advanced riders.
Mountain bikes available to borrow from the hotel at no charge. Use them to explore the estate, cycle along the coast from Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer to Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, or venture into the surrounding countryside.
