Meisenheimer Hof
Deeply personal, wine-obsessed, historically rich without being stuffy. Stone floors, antique furniture, and original art sit alongside modern bathrooms and proper Wi-Fi. The place feels like it's actually run by someone who loves where they live — because it is.
The 'Im Kino' room is a comfort double inside the old cinema building — a panorama window looks into the former auditorium and original 1950s film posters decorate the walls. Book it if you want the most unusual room.
Why It Matters
One Michelin star (awarded 2024) for chef-host Markus Pape's regional cuisine. In-house winery Weingut Disibodenberg (2 grapes Gault&Millau), own distillery (Boos von Waldecksche Hofbrennerei), and a dedicated cooking school. Meisenheim itself is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in southwest Germany — it was never destroyed in war — making the setting genuinely rare.
A late baroque inn operating on this same spot in Meisenheim since at least 1699. Host Markus Pape took it over in 2013 and rebuilt the ensemble from the ground up as a dedicated wine hotel, spreading across several historic buildings integrated into the medieval town wall. In 2024, the restaurant earned its first Michelin star. The 25 rooms are each named after famous Nahe vineyards or historical figures, furnished with individual antique pieces and commissioned art. No two are the same.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Canoe and kayak rental directly at the Meisenheim riverbank (Fun Con Action rental, Hinter der Hofstadt). Tours of 2 to 5 hours: shorter route to Rehborn, longer to Odernheim. Beer gardens along the route for breaks. Good for families, groups of 2–100.
A disused 40 km railway line in the lower Glan valley has been converted for draisin (handcar) tours between Lauterecken, Altenglan, and Staudernheim. Various vehicle types from 3 to 20 passengers — classic bicycle draisin, electric bicycle draisin, barrier-free wagons, conference wagons. Stops at cafés and local sights along the route.
The 3.5 km 'Juché' premium hiking trail starts in the old town and climbs through the wooded Glan valley to a viewing lodge. The 'Magische Heimbach' circular trail covers 12 km past stream valleys and meadows. For cyclists: the 128 km Nahe cycle path and the 130 km Glan-Blies cycle path both pass through Meisenheim. Bicycle storage available at the hotel (guests have used the garage for bikes).
The Kochhaus is a fully equipped cooking studio two minutes' walk from the main hotel, set in a historic building with a large open kitchen (Fissler equipment, Villeroy & Boch presentation), a long cherry wood dining table for up to 12 guests, and a romantic inner courtyard for outdoor grilling events. Classes are led by Markus Pape or guest chefs and cover a rotating calendar of themes: Asian, Creole, Tapas, Truffle & More, Home Cooking, Vegetarian, Oktoberfest kitchen party, and more. Groups cook together and then eat what they made. Also available for private hire.
The hotel runs its own schnapps distillery in the west wing of the Boos von Waldeckscher Hof. A 149-litre copper pot still (Arnold Holstein, Markdorf) produces fruit brandies (Obstler) from hand-selected, fully ripe fruit and an aged marc brandy called 'Meisenheim No. 1' matured in small oak barrels. Tours and tastings available.
Tastings with the hotel's in-house winery, Weingut Disibodenberg, held in the Adelshof Boos von Waldeck. The winery holds 2 grapes in Gault&Millau and produces Riesling, Spätburgunder, Chardonnay, Grauburgunder, Weißburgunder, and sparkling wines. The Montfort vineyard — steep, south-facing, volcanic soil — is the flagship site.
The hotel offers a golf package with greenfee at Golfclub Nahetal e.V. in Bad Münster am Stein (available May–October). Can be booked as part of the 'Golf Package' arrangement.
A library stocked with books including the 'Meisenheimer Novelle' and regional literature. The Café Meisentörtchen also sells curated books and selected reading material.
Exclusive for hotel guests — a rooftop terrace for relaxation and a kitchen herb garden. Good for reading or a quiet glass of wine above the medieval rooftops.
The hotel can point guests toward the town's signature guided tours: the wife-of-the-executioner tour (daytime, stories about Meisenheim's dark history and embarrassing neck court), and the original night watchman lantern tour through the medieval alleys (September to March). The late Gothic castle church offers organ concerts and organ tours.
The hotel converted the outer walls of the former Meisenheim cinema/festival hall into an open-air stage on the roof. Summer events include live music (Rockabilly Hellraisers, Mr. Flower Power, Spanish Night with Rumbalea), wine tastings, and gala dinners. Drinks served throughout. Also available as an exclusive rooftop terrace for hotel guests.
