KYOTO
Minimalist Japanese luxury meets urban retreat. Think clean lines, natural materials, refined spatial calm — not a ryokan exactly, but rooted in the same tradition of bathing culture and seasonal awareness. The guiding Zen concept, 'Reidanzichi' (knowing warmth and cold by oneself), shapes everything from the room design to the bathing experience.
The rooftop MOKU SAUNA on the 10th floor can be booked independently of hotel stays — ideal if you're staying nearby and want a private sauna session
Why It Matters
Claimed to be Kyoto's only hotel offering entire-floor private rentals. Each of the four rooms is genuinely distinct, and the 10th-floor MAU suite tops the building with an infinity pool and private sauna. It's a new-generation take on the Japanese auberge concept, transplanted into the heart of the city rather than hidden in the countryside.
MOKU KYOTO is a four-room boutique hotel where each room occupies an entire floor to itself — floors 7 through 10 of a mixed-use building a one-minute walk from Shijo Station. It's the second property under the MOKU brand (the first being the coastal auberge MOKU ISESHIMA in Ise-Shima), and it opened in November 2025. Every floor comes with its own open-air bath and indoor bath, and the top floor adds an infinity pool and sauna. The building's lower floors house four independent restaurants.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Each room listing references an 'Osewagakari' (personal attendant) service, plus assistance with taxi bookings, restaurant reservations, and tour arrangements. A 24-hour emergency line is also available.
Exclusive-use rooftop sauna with self-löyly (steam stones), outdoor fresh-air deck, and an infinity pool overlooking central Kyoto. Bookable in 2.5-hour daytime sessions or a 6-hour overnight block. Included for MAU suite guests; separately reservable for guests in other rooms or non-hotel visitors. Max four people per session.
The second-floor Tea Lounge ISOLA invites guests to roast their own tea leaves under the guidance of the lounge's tea specialists. A rare, hands-on experience within walking distance of your room.
