Moxy Kyoto opened in July 2021 as the Moxy brand's first Kyoto outpost — a deliberate tonal contrast to the ancient city around it. The 9-floor, 158-room hotel sits three minutes on foot from JR Nijo Station, with Nijo Castle just down the road. The top-tier Sakura (cherry blossom) rooms sit on the highest floors with better views. Named for Japan's iconic spring bloom. Same core room design as the other tiers but with premium mood lighting and the best sightlines in the building. Only 15 premium rooms in the hotel, so availability is limited.

The entry-level Ume (plum blossom) rooms sit on lower floors. Compact but cleverly laid out with pegboard wall storage, a fold-down desk, motion-activated LED guidelights, and a 50-inch flat-screen TV. Walk-in rainfall shower and Toto Washlet bidet toilet — no bathtub. Three hangers is generous for this peg wall; pack light or get creative with storage.
