Ask for a higher floor (7th or 8th) — some rooms get city skyline views at no extra charge

Why It Matters

One of Manchester's most talked-about budget-to-mid-range hotels since opening, partly because its lobby beats most four-star public spaces in the city. The first hotel in Manchester with a digital 'Guestbook' wall where Instagram posts from guests appear in real-time. Michelin Guide-listed despite positioning itself squarely at the value end of the market.

Built on the site of a former hat factory in Spinningfields, Moxy Manchester City opened in 2022 and wears its industrial heritage lightly. The nine-storey new-build keeps a slice of the original weathered brick façade but is otherwise a sharp contemporary structure, its interiors channelling urban loft living complete with nods to Joy Division and The Smiths. Rooms are compact and the design is deliberately playful — think motion-activated LED guide lights, wall-mounted hanging rails instead of wardrobes, and 42-inch TVs angled perfectly for watching in bed. The real draw is Bar Moxy, which doubles as the front desk: you check in over a complimentary cocktail and the party rarely stops before 3am on weekends.
