Why It Matters
Every room is a love letter to a specific Utrecht museum — from an Art Deco Railway Museum coupé to a botanical stained-glass canal room to an attic observatory suite with a working telescope. The whole hotel can be bought out for 18 guests. The renovation story was made into a 5-part documentary broadcast on RTV Utrecht.
MUZE is a family-run boutique hotel in a restored 19th-century building along one of Utrecht's canals. Eight rooms, each named and designed after a different Utrecht museum, mix original historic details — stained-glass windows, plaster ceiling ornaments, original mantlepieces — with bold colour and clean lines. The ground floor sunroom doubles as a lounge, breakfast room, and the warm social heart of the whole operation. Opened in 2020 after a 3.5-year 'from ruin to hotel' renovation by siblings Paul and Cocky Barendregt and their three daughters.

Themed around Museum Speelklok — Utrecht's famous musical automata museum. Sweet and richly decorated, with an ensuite bathroom containing both shower and bath overlooking the garden. 24m² on the 2nd floor.

Flora
A 24m² botanical explosion on the 1st floor with original stained-glass windows that throw coloured light across the room when the sun hits them. Canal views and a private balcony to watch the sun dip behind the city skyline.

At 35m², this is the largest room in the hotel and the only one with a private terrace. Located at the sunny rear souterrain, it fits three guests comfortably. The bath and shower are in the room itself (separate toilet). Patio doors lead to your own garden terrace.

Holy
Inspired by the Catharijneconvent religious museum and set in the front souterrain, the Holy room is 28m² with a freestanding bath right in the bedroom. A separate bathroom with shower and toilet gives more privacy. Start the morning with a coffee at your own in-room bar.
