Narendra Bhawan
Eclectic Indian Deco heritage — part royal residence, part curated museum, with jazz in the foyer, Bikaneri cattle courtyards converted into cocktail gardens, and a rooftop infinity pool staring down at the Thar Desert skyline.
Ask for a room above the ground floor and away from the back gate — some lower-floor Residence rooms near the rear entrance can get noisy
Why It Matters
Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and the Michelin Guide. Designed by Jaipur-based designer Ayush Kasliwal in collaboration with the Maharaja's daughter Sidhi Kumari, every curio and artefact traces back to Narendra Singhji's life and travels. The hotel is the undisputed best address in Bikaner — a city that most visitors skip entirely.
Narendra Bhawan is the former personal residence of Bikaner's last Maharaja, Narendra Singhji (1948–2003), rebuilt on the same site and opened as an 80-room boutique hotel. The interiors are a deliberate time capsule — Portuguese tiles, English antiques, terrazzo floors, velvet-draped rooms, Penguin Classics on the shelves, and a royal red baby grand piano with Edith Piaf's 'Non, je ne regrette rien' inscribed in gold. Each room category tells a chapter of the Maharaja's life, from his royal birth to his life as a democrat and world traveller.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Excursions into the Thar Desert and to Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary, arranged through the hotel. Wildlife sightings include blackbuck, gazelle, antelope and bird life.
A multi-course dinner where each dish is paired with excerpts from one of 7 literary classics. One of the most unique experiential dining concepts in Indian hospitality.
Off-site multi-course lunch at the Gold Room of Laxmi Niwas Palace, recreating a menu from the Maharaja Ganga Singh era in a room adorned with ~50 kg of gold inlay. Considered one of the best signature experiences the hotel offers.
Private tours of Bikaner's old town on foot or by horse-drawn carriage through narrow lanes lined with ochre-red havelis, ending with lunch at a former merchant's residence.
Guided tours through Bikaner's historic city — including Junagarh Fort, the old havelis, narrow lanes of the old town, and the lesser-known Bikaji ki Tekri fort. The hotel provides an air-conditioned luxury car, knowledgeable guide and butler service on the road (cold drinks at every stop).
At dusk the rooftop infinity pool transforms into a celebration space — live BBQ, party music and cocktails under the stars with sweeping views over old and new Bikaner.
Starlit evening events under the open sky — sundowners in desert oases outside the city, serenaded by live flute music.
