Book the Barocco Jr. Suite if it's available — the private terrace under the cathedral dome is genuinely unlike anything else in Ragusa

Why It Matters

Michelin Guide listed. One of very few places to sleep directly inside Ragusa Ibla's historic core, 50 metres from the Duomo di San Giorgio. The Barocco Jr. Suite terrace offers a private view of the cathedral dome that virtually no other room in the city can match. Owner Cristina is consistently praised as exceptional — guests return five times.

A 19th-century Ibleo palazzo on Via Capitano Bocchieri, steps from the Duomo di San Giorgio, converted into five individually designed suites. The name comes from 'pietra pece' — the dark local asphalt stone used on floors and stairs throughout. The ground-floor reception and breakfast room occupy a former stable cave, cobblestone floor and stone vault intact. No two rooms look alike: five distinct personalities, from a four-poster baroque suite with a private terrace literally under the cathedral dome to a minimalist Japanese-style attic perch on the third floor.

Suite Alhambra

Also on the first floor and about the same 33 sqm as Explorateur, but with its own character — a private balcony facing UNESCO-listed Palazzo La Rocca and a deliberately 'deconstructed' bathroom where the shower, toilet, and sink are placed in an unconventional open arrangement, a bold architectural choice. Nero pece floors give it the same moody elegance as the other rooms.

Suite Barocco

The flagship room and the one everyone wants. Inspired by the baroque style it's named for — four-poster canopied bed, a large rose motif on the wall, dominant grey and ink-black palette that plays off the nero pece floors. 36 sqm on the second floor, with an adjoining sitting area for reading or a glass of Sicilian wine. The private terrace sits directly beneath the Duomo dome, which is genuinely as close and dramatic as it sounds. In-room massages available on request.

Suite Explorateur

Named after the 19th-century European explorers who rediscovered Sicily and wrote so romantically about it. On the first floor, a spacious 33 sqm double with a large bathroom and a private terrace framed by stone arches that look out directly onto Palazzo La Rocca — UNESCO World Heritage. Nero pece floors throughout. A slightly more outward-facing room than the Barocco, with the pleasure of watching life pass by the palazzo across the alley.

Suite Giardino

The garden room — on the second floor, around 25 sqm, with lush velvet-green furnishings and botanical wallpaper that commit fully to the garden theme. What sets it apart is an exclusive private outdoor garden space where you can sit and look straight up at the Duomo dome. The most quietly romantic of the five options. Beds can be separated into twins on request.

Suite Oriente

The odd one out — in the best way. A 22 sqm attic room on the third floor, designed with Japanese minimalism in mind: low-profile double bed, oak parquet flooring, and a deliberately theatrical open-plan bathroom with the shower visible from the sleeping area. Small windows give glimpses of the Duomo dome. The most intimate and unusual of the five. Not recommended for those with any mobility difficulties — three flights of steep stairs.
