Neuwirt. Hotel & Wirtshaus
Contemporary-traditional Austrian boutique inn. Genuine fourth-generation hospitality with a modern design sensibility. No spa, no gym, no frills you won't use — but an exceptional kitchen, curated wine list, and easy access to Salzburg and the Alps.
Ask about the complimentary train ticket to Salzburg — several guests mention it but it's not prominently advertised.
Why It Matters
Listed in the Michelin Guide and featured by Falstaff, Servus, and Wirtshausführer. One of the few genuinely family-owned properties in the Salzburg region operating continuously since 1877, with an in-house sommelier (Katharina Schiefer) and a Wirtshaus that locals actually eat at. The new-build suites — including one with a private sauna — are a genuine step up from the typical regional inn.
A family-run boutique inn on the village square of Bad Vigaun since 1877, now in its fourth generation under Katharina and Michael Schiefer. The original farmhouse has been joined by a sleek new-build wing housing contemporary suites — think warm wood floors, boxspring beds, and every room with a balcony, loggia, or garden terrace. The attached Wirtshaus does double duty as a proper local pub and a serious regional kitchen, pulling in both villagers and hotel guests.
