Why It Matters
One of the few full-service hotels in Vesterbro with three distinct bars (Italian restaurant bar, a Danish bodega called Pinden, and a seasonal rooftop), all open to the public. Originally opened in 1928, the building has genuine character — stucco ceilings, a grand corner facade — that the 2023 renovation preserved rather than erased.

Renovated and relaunched in April 2023 under the NH Hotels flag, it now goes by Grand Joanne — named after a fictional well-traveled woman whose warmth supposedly shaped every interior detail. The result is 162 rooms across six floors with soft Scandinavian textures, an Italian restaurant with an open kitchen, a bodega serving Danish beers, and a rooftop bar open in summer with proper Copenhagen skyline views. Private balcony is the main draw. Some face towards Tivoli — worth specifying at booking. Otherwise same spec as Superior: walk-in shower, separate toilet, premium bedding, Nespresso, minibar. Good choice if you want outdoor space without going full Penthouse.
Junior Suite
Noticeably more space than standard rooms, with a separate seating area. King-sized bed, Nespresso machine, heated bathroom floors. Some Junior Suites also come with a private balcony. A solid upgrade for longer stays or anyone who found the standard rooms too tight.
Penthouse
Top floor, sweeping Copenhagen skyline views, private terrace. The full fit-out: king bed, Nespresso machine, heated bathroom floors, walk-in shower, bathrobe. The terrace is the headline — a private outdoor space in a city where that's genuinely rare at this price point.
Standard / Cosy Double Room
The entry-level room. Compact by Copenhagen standards — guests flag the small size in reviews, though most say it's smartly configured to use every square metre. Soundproofed walls, walk-in shower, separate toilet, coffee/tea maker, flat-screen TV, and blackout curtains. Comfortable for one or two people who won't be spending much time in the room.
Superior Room
A step up in size. Upper-floor Superior rooms get expansive city views, which is where the category really earns its keep. Same core kit as Standard — soundproofed, walk-in shower, coffee machine — but more breathing room. Nespresso machine and minibar are available in this category.
