Why It Matters
The previous tenants — Hotel de Ville and Bistro 't Gerecht — held a Michelin Bib Gourmand for over 10 consecutive years. The new owners kept the same chef (Henrice Dijks) and raised the level: Restaurant Blumé is now listed in the Michelin Guide and Gault & Millau. The building itself is a genuine 17th-century monument with a distinctive facade of carved wooden floral swags.
A 17th-century building on one of Groningen's most handsome streets, Hotel Halbert opened in January 2023 after new owners renovated the former Hotel de Ville from the ground up. The 66 rooms blend old-building character — think original architectural details and high ceilings — with a clean, modern fit-out. And the ground floor houses Restaurant Blumé, one of the city's most serious kitchens, listed in both the Michelin Guide and Gault & Millau.

The only room type that sleeps four. Two beds, good for parents and kids, with parquet floors, TV, safe, and all standard amenities. Children 4 and above are charged as adults, so plan accordingly.

The top of the house. King-size bed, freestanding bath, a separate sitting area, and authentic architectural details woven into the modern design. The kind of room you actually want to spend time in. Complimentary coffee, bubbles on request.
KingStandard Room
Compact but well-thought-out rooms, each decorated in its own style and colour palette. At 15m², they're on the snug side, but the design is sharp and everything you need is there: double bed, walk-in shower, Nespresso machine, kettle, minibar, safe, flat-screen TV, and free WiFi. Good for a city break where you plan to spend most of your time out.

Hotel Halbert partners with the Groninger Gidsenteam — professional city guides who offer tours of Groningen's historic centre, including the Martini Tower, university buildings, and canal walks. The hotel can arrange these for guests.
