Nine Orchard
Downtown New York cool — Old World landmark bones with a residential, art-world sensibility. Not flashy. Knowledgeable, neighborhood-first staff. Attracts tastemakers, gallery types, and celebrities without trying too hard.
Morning coffee and pastries in the Swan Room are complimentary for guests — the room is stunning and usually quiet before 9am
Why It Matters
A genuine adaptive reuse landmark: the building received the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy in 2021, and GQ named it one of the Most Stylish Hotels on the Planet in 2024. Originally launched with a Michelin-starred food and beverage program by chef Ignacio Mattos (Estela), the hotel remains a proper culinary destination even after his departure. No pool, no traditional spa — but the Swan Room alone is worth a detour.
Nine Orchard is a 113-room boutique hotel inside the meticulously restored 1912 Jarmulowsky Bank building on the Lower East Side — right where Chinatown bleeds into Dimes Square. The Neo-Renaissance architecture is jaw-dropping: vaulted ceilings, pink Tennessee marble, a 60-foot domed rooftop tempietto. Rooms, by contrast, go deliberately quiet — muted palettes, heart pine floors, commissioned art by local artists, and custom Ojas speakers programmed with four NYC-curated radio stations.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel runs a dedicated events series — 9O Presents — featuring cultural events, performances, and experiences for guests and locals. RSVP-based; guests get priority access.
A stylish jade-green 24-hour gym on-site. Compact but well-appointed. Fitness classes available.
Commissioned works from New York City artists are displayed on floors 3 through 12. Guests can informally self-tour the artwork, printed by master printmaker Felix Harlan whose studio is nearby. A large-scale work by Brooklyn artist María Berrío anchors the Swan Room.
Three distinct event spaces: the Blue Room (custom botanical mural by artist Happy Menocal, seats 40); the rooftop greenhouse (capacity 225 standing or 70 seated); and a third space for smaller gatherings. The hotel collaborates with each host on custom event planning.
