Book the Hideout Suite early; it's the most in-demand room and books out weeks ahead

Why It Matters

First hotel for the GuestHouse Hotels group. Rated #2 City Spa by the Good Spa Guide Awards 2024. The 55 sqm Hideout Suite with its indoor hot tub is one of Bath's most talked-about hotel rooms. The Copper Room spa treatment — couples soaking in a round copper bath together — is a genuinely rare offering. Rooms designed with Martin Hulbert (also behind Chewton Glen and the Grove). Everything from Hypnos Lansdowne cashmere mattresses to Wildsmith bath products to vinyl record players in every room.

Three Grade I-listed Georgian townhouses on Bath's widest and grandest street, opened in late 2016 as the debut property of the GuestHouse Hotels group. The exteriors are exactly what you'd expect on Great Pulteney Street — stately, symmetrical, almost austere. Inside is a different story. Every corridor, table and room surface is layered with art, curiosities and playful design details. Record players in every room, a complimentary pantry stocked with homemade treats daily, and a subterranean spa set in stone vaults make this one of Bath's more distinctive places to stay. There's also a separate Coach House at the rear with Gothic-style crenellated parapets and views of Henrietta Park — architecturally bonkers in the best possible way.

Bigger Guest Room

Just a step up in size but with noticeably more breathing room. The standout is a room with hand screen-printed wallpaper by Tracy Kendall — a huge handwritten inventory of what might be found in a Georgian home. Located on lower-ground, ground and third floors. Super-king bed with twin option. Fits a cot. Dog-friendly rooms available.

Coach House Guest Room

Coach House Guest Room

Set in a separate building behind the main houses, built around 30 years later in a deliberately non-classical Gothic style. A crenellated parapet and quatrefoil windows give it a distinctly eccentric look. Rooms face either the hotel or Henrietta Park. Sanctuary-like and quieter than the main house. A few steps up to the entrance make it unsuitable for wheelchair users. All dog-friendly, all with king beds and a separate pantry.

Guest Room

The most popular entry-level room. Each one is shaped entirely by its view — you might wake beneath exotic bird wallpaper inspired by Henrietta Park's pergola, or find yourself surrounded by graduate artwork from the Bath School of Art. Located across most floors with lift access. Bathrooms have either a bath with overhead shower or a walk-in shower. Dog-friendly rooms available.

Henrietta Junior Suite

On the third floor of the main house, looking out over Henrietta Park and the city. Light, bright and minimalist — a calmer aesthetic than some of the busier rooms downstairs. Has a separate lounge with a sofa bed, making it genuinely useful for families. Bathrooms have either a bath with overhead shower or a separate bath and shower. Dog-friendly.

Hideout Suite

The standout room in Bath. 55 sqm that feels more apartment-with-spa than hotel suite. The headline feature is a huge bathroom with a private hot tub that feels like it's almost outdoors. Beyond that: a proper dressing room, a lounge with a fireplace and Sonos system, and a super-king bedroom. Deliberately designed for couples who want to check in and not leave. Dog-friendly.

Martin Hulbert Design's handiwork is all over these — illustrated bed backdrops, raw plaster borders, ultra-modern furniture and curio collections that bridge the Georgian and the contemporary. On the first and second floors of the main house. Bathrooms have either a bath with overhead shower or a separate bath and shower. Every room fits a cot; one has a sofa bed for two children. All dog-friendly.

Pulteney Suite

The jewels of the townhouses. Front-facing on the first and second floors with super-high Georgian ceilings, grand sash windows framed by shutters and drapes, and marble-topped washstands with bespoke basins. Martin Hulbert Design has layered in trompe l'oeil details and witty references to the buildings' heritage. Sofa beds available for families; most rooms take a cot too. Dog-friendly.

Small Guest Room

Bijou attic rooms that were once the servants' quarters. Sit at the very top of the main townhouses with bird's-eye views over Great Pulteney Street and a maze of Bath rooftops. Genuinely small — the hotel itself recommends booking a larger room for stays of more than one night. Thoughtfully designed but tight on space. No dogs permitted.
