The Nomad occupies Basel's very first concrete apartment block — a 1950s landmark whose distinctive facade has been carefully preserved and paired with a purpose-built rear addition. Architects Buchner Bründler connected the two structures through a shared, open-plan ground floor that doubles as the social heart of the place. Interior designer Grego layered in custom kilim carpets, warm oak wood, and bespoke furniture to soften all that raw concrete without diluting the architectural integrity. The result: 65 rooms, an award-winning bar, and a global street food eatery that locals genuinely use.

Top-floor room in the front building with high ceilings, loads of natural light, and a private balcony. At 25 sqm it is not enormous, but the outdoor space and position make it feel more generous. Quiet retreat despite the central location.

Located in the newer rear building, the Signature Rooms are defined by exposed concrete shells warmed by oak wood cores and soft, colorful fabrics. Each one is slightly different. At 24 sqm they are not large but the architectural drama makes up for it — this is the room architecture fans come for.
