Why It Matters

It's one of the few hotels in Greater Manchester that's genuinely interesting to look at. The building is a proper Gothic Revival structure, faithfully restored, with a fully realised interior concept rather than generic boutique-hotel trimmings. The Michelin Guide singles it out; The Telegraph has praised its 'mix of cosiness and glamour'. And you're staying inside a working public park, which is a genuinely unusual setup.

A Gothic Revival Victorian mansion built in 1861 — originally Bruntwood Hall — sitting inside 120 acres of public parkland in Cheadle, about 15 minutes from Manchester Airport. The restoration, completed in 2017, kept the moulded ceilings, archways, original floor tiles and grand staircase intact, then layered in bold wallpapers, Tom Dixon chairs, a bicycle-chain chandelier, and enough eccentric detail to make it feel genuinely odd rather than heritage-themed. Twenty-two individually designed rooms, a restaurant named after the hall's previous life as an equestrian stud, a cocktail bar to match, and a spa called The Pigsty round it out.

Club Plus Room
Deluxe

Club Plus Room

Slightly larger again than the Club Rooms, with a double vanity unit in most and a 6ft king-size bed. Same park views, same Bruntwood-facing outlook. A comfortable step up if you want more space to spread out without going full suite.

Club Room

A step up from Park Rooms in size — around 20 sqm — but the same park-facing outlook and playful decorative theme. The upgrade to a 6ft king-size bed is noticeable, and the glass-panelled shower rooms are particularly well done. A small seating area and vanity unit complete the picture.

Kendal Suite

These are the original master bedrooms of Bruntwood Hall on the first floor, and they show it. Studio-style layout with a four-poster king-size bed AND a freestanding roll-top bathtub in the room, plus a walk-in power shower, double vanity and original Victorian windows with treetop views. The most romantic option in the house outside of the Tower Suite.

Park Room

The entry-level room, and still a solid option. At around 17 sqm these are the cosiest in the building, designed by SpaceInvader with splashes of bright colour, tactile fabrics and sleek modern furnishings. A 5ft king-size bed, a small seating area and a vanity unit. Bathrooms are contemporary — walk-in power shower, quality amenities, and ample natural light. All rooms face the park.

Playground Suite

Set in the third-floor eaves of the building, which means exposed Victorian beams overhead and a properly characterful feel. Slightly smaller than the Kendal Suites but still genuinely spacious. You get to choose at booking: a Victorian-style roll-top bathtub or a four-poster bed. Either way, there's a walk-in power shower, double bathroom vanity and park views through original windows.

Tower Suite

The headline act. Spread over two floors inside the hall's original tower, with stained-glass windows, Jacobean mouldings, burlesque-themed wallpaper and a bouncy king-size bed in the upper bedroom. Downstairs: a separate sitting room with a corner sofa and dining area. The bathroom has twin walk-in rainfall showers. It's three storeys of revivified antique elegance — one of the more genuinely unusual hotel rooms in the North of England.
