Why It Matters

Award-winning architecture (Shaw Contract), the only Hoshino Resorts OMO property in Kyushu at its launch, and a terrace with direct Kumamoto Castle views. The OMO brand's local programming (Go-KINJO map, free guided tours, nightly taiko performances) sets it apart from generic business hotels in the area.

OMO5 Kumamoto sits dead-center in the city's commercial district, one minute on foot from the Torichosuji tram stop and a 5-minute walk from Kumamoto Castle. The building itself won a Shaw Contract design award, and the terrace — where you can watch the castle glow at night over a glass of Kuma Shochu — is the real anchor of the experience. Rooms are compact, all tatami-floored, with deep soaking bathtubs and separated bath and toilet areas. The OMO brand's whole thing is being plugged into local culture, so expect a giant Go-KINJO neighborhood map on the wall, free guided city tours, and nightly taiko drum events rather than a generic hotel lobby.

Where You'll Stay

5 room types available

Entaku Twin Room
Twin

Entaku Twin Room

Named after a round table ('entaku' in Japanese), this room puts a generously sized circular table between the two twin beds. During the day it's a proper work or dining surface; at night it serves as a soft physical divider between sleepers. Clean and functional, a good pick for two people who want a bit of separation without the loft-bed drama.

OMO House with Kitchen
Apartment-style Suite

OMO House with Kitchen

The group option. Two bedrooms plus a kitchen area with a drum washer-dryer — basically a small self-catering apartment. Twin room plus bunk beds that can be screened off for privacy. Kitchen area is designed for enjoying Kumamoto food you pick up locally. At 48 sqm it's the most space you'll get in the property, and the washer-dryer makes it practical for longer stays.

Utsuwa Twin Room
Twin

Utsuwa Twin Room

The 'utsuwa' (vessel or container) concept puts a wraparound table along the wall that functions as a full-width desk from the entrance side and drops to low-table height on the bed side. It's adaptable and eliminates the usual small-hotel lack of work/table space. Slightly larger range than other standard rooms.

YAGURA Room A
Twin

YAGURA Room A

The signature OMO5 room concept: vertical design uses the room's height to separate a raised sleeping loft from a sofa space below, giving two people genuinely independent spaces in a tight footprint. Tatami mat flooring throughout. Deep soaking bathtub with bath and toilet separated. There are two sub-types — ladder access or stairway access to the upper bunk. Kids love it. Low ceiling in the upper bunk is a real thing, so fair warning for taller guests.

YAGURA Room B
Twin

YAGURA Room B

Slightly larger than the YAGURA Room A, with more sofa/living space — recommended for groups who want room to spread out and socialize rather than retreat to individual spaces. Same vertical loft design, tatami floors, and castle-town aesthetic. Also comes in ladder or stairway variants.

How you'll actually spend your days.

Cultural Event
Castle Town Party with Echoing Drums (Local Rhythm Night)Complimentary

The nightly signature event. As evening falls, the terrace and public spaces fill with traditional Japanese decorations evoking the castle-town atmosphere. It's genuinely fun and not at all cheesy.

Local Discovery
Go-KINJO MapComplimentary
