Why It Matters
The longest-established and most storied luxury resort in Mauritius. Named after the Le Saint Géran ship that wrecked off the peninsula in 1744 — a wreck that inspired Bernardin de Saint-Pierre's famous novel. Home to the only Guerlain Spa in Mauritius (opened 2024), six restaurant venues including the overwater Tapasake, and one of the best complimentary watersports programmes in the Indian Ocean.
One&Only Le Saint Géran is Mauritius's grand dame of luxury resorts — the original. Sol Kerzner opened it in 1975, it joined the One&Only portfolio in 2002, and a full gut renovation reopened it in December 2019. It sits on its own private peninsula on the northeast coast, flanked by a calm coral lagoon on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other, with nearly two kilometres of white sand all to itself. That peninsula is the real asset — private beaches are genuinely rare in Mauritius, and few resorts have anything close to this.
