Why It Matters

One of the rare ski hotels that swapped Alpine kitsch for genuine contemporary personality. Tablet Hotels and Michelin Guide-listed. Named after the Ormelune mountain peak on the France-Italy border. The only ski hotel of its kind in Val d'Isère that genuinely commits to colour and humour as design principles rather than as an afterthought.

The Ormelune is a 4-star family-run boutique ski hotel sitting right in the original village of Val d'Isère at 1,850m, in the heart of the Espace Killy ski area. It used to be a perfectly ordinary mountain hotel — until it caught the renovation bug. The result is an anti-alpine-kitsch statement: 56 rooms spread across five floors, decorated with bold tangy colours, varnished concrete bathrooms, and a sense of humour that starts at the front door (fake grass carpet, cow statues) and doesn't let up. The French Ski School is literally across the street. The slopes are a short walk away.
