Why It Matters
One of the few true palaces in Fes operating as a hotel. The building itself predates most of the city's riad-hotel boom by centuries. Its elevated position above the medina gives it views and a quieter atmosphere that in-medina riads can't match, while still being walkable to the major monuments.
This is the real thing. Built in the 19th century as Bensouda Palace — home to one of Fes's most prominent bourgeois families — Palais Faraj sits on a hillside above the medina with sweeping panoramic views that most hotels in the medina simply can't offer. Owners Evelyne and Driss Faceh transformed it into a luxury hotel in 2012, and the place runs 31 all-suite rooms ranging from cozy riad-style digs to a Royale Suite dripping in carved cedar and zellij. The cuisine, the Essencia Spa, and the rooftop restaurant are all serious draws — not hotel amenities tacked on as an afterthought.
