Why It Matters
Rare among central Rome luxury hotels for having a genuine outdoor marble-lined pool in a garden planted with olive and lemon trees. Named after marquise Anna Maria Malaspina of the Malaspina dynasty — one of the oldest noble families in Europe — who entertained diplomats and aristocrats here. The Peruvian-Nikkei restaurant Pacifico sits in the original opulent dining room.
An 18th-century palazzo on the Lungotevere, Palazzo Dama is named in honor of the aristocratic women of the Malaspina dynasty who once called it home. The well-preserved exterior gives way to interiors that mix high-ceilinged historic rooms with contemporary art, custom furniture from architect Antonio Girardi, and fabrics by Dedar, Loro Piana, and Ralph Lauren. Double Deluxe
Intimate rooms in taupe or green — the smallest category at the hotel, but not mean. Cloud-like queen beds, Forties-style lamps, and impressively roomy marble-tiled en-suite bathrooms. Two of these rooms connect, useful for families or friends. Views look out to the hotel entrance or the Tiber River. Soundproofing is strong.
