Palazzo Durazzo
Aristocratic baroque grandeur meets intimate boutique. Historically serious, not stuffy. Every corner has a story, and the staff actually know it.
Book Il Doge or I Quattro Fiumi for sea views over the port; rooms on the Via del Campo side are quieter and face the historic street
Why It Matters
Part of the UNESCO-listed Palazzi dei Rolli. Still owned and managed by descendants of the Durazzo family (Cattaneo Adorno Giustiniani) without interruption since 1624. Named to the Condé Nast Traveler Hot List 2025 and featured in the Financial Times, Monocle, and the Michelin Guide. Genoa's first genuinely world-class luxury hotel.
Palazzo Durazzo is a 17th-century noble palace on Genoa's waterfront that spent 400 years as the official state guesthouse of the Genoese Republic — receiving kings and ambassadors — before reopening in 2023 as a 12-suite hotel. After a seven-year restoration led by architect and family descendant Emanuela Brignone Cattaneo, it's now the most storied address in a city that doesn't get nearly enough attention. Every room is a one-of-a-kind: think 7-metre frescoed ceilings by Baroque master Domenico Parodi, shell mosaic grottos, and a private chapel. There is no pool, no spa in the traditional sense, and no gym — but the rooms themselves are the spectacle.

Golf arrangements in and around the Genoa area, organised through the hotel concierge.
Hotel-curated experience to the Nervi neighbourhood's famous cliffside promenade — one of the most scenic coastal walks in Liguria, far quieter than Cinque Terre.
The hotel operates its own boat available for private charter along the Ligurian coast. Portofino is the most popular run — about 45 minutes by sea. Cinque Terre is also reachable. Regularly-departing public cruises to Camogli, Cinque Terre, and Portofino also depart from the Old Port nearby.
Hotel-curated trekking routes and guides for exploring the Ligurian hills above Genoa — the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri trails and routes above the old city walls.
