Palazzo Vecchietti
Noble Florentine residence. Think prune-and-cream fabrics, bespoke leather furniture, medieval fireplaces, ornate cornices and 19th-century charcoal drawings in the common areas. Intimate and residential rather than grand-hotel formal.

Why It Matters
Genuinely historic fabric — there's an intact Byzantine tower inside the building, and Botticelli's 'Sant'Agostino nello Studio' once hung here before landing in the Uffizi. The palace is mentioned in Dante's Paradiso. Giambologna placed the Vecchietti family crest and a bronze devil flag-carrier on the corner facade, still visible today. Very few hotels can claim this level of authentic Renaissance provenance.
A 16th-century Florentine palace commissioned in 1578 by senator Bernardo Vecchietti and designed by the sculptor Giambologna — yes, that Giambologna — turned into a 14-room boutique hotel. Rooms are named for Florentine artists and poets (Michelangelo, Dante Alighieri, Botticelli, Donatello…) and interior designer Michele Bonan fitted each one with a concealed kitchenette and chocolate marble bathrooms. It functions less like a hotel and more like a borrowed aristocratic apartment right in the dead center of the city.
