PALM Hotel Sri Lanka
Industrial-Brutalist meets barefoot bohemian. Think Shoreditch warehouse transplanted to a Sri Lankan jungle: poured concrete, floor-to-ceiling glass, cane furniture, linen beds, and outdoor rain showers. Zero colonial verandas. Zero thatched roofs.

Why It Matters
Featured in Condé Nast Traveler, Wallpaper*, and The Telegraph. The only hotel of its kind on the Sri Lankan south coast — industrial architecture as design manifesto, with a kitchen that non-guests actively seek out, a CrossFit gym run by Sri Lanka's leading strength coach, and in-room massages from a former NBA sports physio.
PALM is a boutique concept hotel that opened in 2019 on a former coconut plantation in Ahangama's paddy fields, about 10 minutes inland from the surf beaches. Former East Londoners Miriam Haniffa and Laurie Spencer built it from scratch — a Brutalist-inspired pavilion of charcoal-black repurposed shipping containers and steel-framed warehouse windows, sitting in four acres of jungle greenery with a 14m pool framed by a Ricardo Bofill–inspired pastel-pink wall. Six A-frame corrugated-steel cabanas and two stilted paddy-view suites spread across the grove, plus the four-bedroom PALM Haus villa for groups.
