Road Tintagel Colombo
Design-forward colonial mansion with a moody, intimate atmosphere. Monochrome public spaces, locally commissioned art throughout, a proper cocktail bar with crimson walls, and candlelit alfresco courtyard dining at night. Think: Colombo's most stylish private residence that happens to take guests.
Ask for the Royal Suite — it's the most dramatic room and has the private front balcony where you can have meals brought up
Why It Matters
Only 10 suites, all individually designed — each different in layout and feel due to the building's residential history. Hosted royalty. Featured in National Geographic Traveler, Architectural Digest, and Condé Nast Traveler. The Red Bar, Library, and The Courtyard are local meeting spots, not just guest-only spaces.
A 1930s Colonial-era mansion turned all-suite boutique hotel, Tintagel sits in Colombo's most elite neighborhood — Cinnamon Gardens — and carries serious historical weight. The building was previously home to three Sri Lankan prime ministers and was chosen as the official residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Designer Udayashanth Fernando of the Paradise Road lifestyle brand overhauled the property in 2005, threading contemporary Sri Lankan art and sharp modern interiors through the heritage bones of the building without a hint of colonial kitsch.
