Perivolas Lifestyle Houses
Minimalist Cycladic cave luxury. All whitewashed stone, vaulted skylit ceilings, beds built into alcoves, low-slung sofas with fuchsia and lilac throws. Adults-only. Intentionally quiet. The point is to do nothing particularly well.
Book one of the six poolside restaurant tables early — they're the most coveted seats in the house for sunset dinners.
Why It Matters
Credited as the original caldera cave hotel that defined the Santorini luxury aesthetic. Still family-owned. The communal infinity pool perched on the cliff edge is one of the most photographed pools in the Mediterranean. No TVs anywhere — this is a deliberate design choice, not an oversight.
Perivolas is a cluster of 300-year-old cave dwellings — once homes of local fishermen and farmers, later stables — carved into the caldera cliffs just outside Oia. Bought in 1969 by Greek naval officer Manos Psychas and his wife Nadia, the property has been transformed across three family generations into 23 very individual suites and villas. There are no TVs. The infinity pool has been on magazine covers since 1997. This is the place that put Oia on the map, and spawned a generation of imitators.
