Why It Matters

PIERDREI sits directly across from the UNESCO World Heritage Speicherstadt warehouse district in Hamburg's HafenCity — 212 rooms across five size categories, a rooftop bar, a theater, a kids-only play zone, a bike rental, and an in-house art gallery, all packed into one decidedly un-boring building. The lobby is green-toned (inspired by Speicherstadt's famous verdigris copper roofs), and 71 hidden dioramas are scattered throughout the property for guests to find. It opened in 2019 and has been winning German Design Awards ever since.

At 35 sqm, these 10 corner rooms are genuinely big for a Hamburg city hotel. The layout puts parents in a double bed while kids get a dedicated children's bunk — and there's a proper dining/play table for games nights. Panoramic corner windows. Electric kettle and tea included. The best family option in the building.

The most practical option for families or anyone who actually wants to sit down somewhere other than the bed. 65 rooms with a proper lounger sofa (90x250cm) that doubles as a third sleeping spot for a child. Same full kit as other categories, just with more flexibility.

The smallest category but fully equipped — 118 rooms, which makes it by far the most common option. Fine for solo travelers or couples on a city break who don't plan to spend much time in the room.
