Why It Matters
Michelin Guide recommended. Nicky Dobree's first boutique hotel project. Only 6 rooms means the whole place barely qualifies as a hotel — which is exactly the appeal. The connection to La Casa del Califa gives guests access to a serious Repsol-recommended restaurant, a traditional hammam, and a rooftop cocktail bar with views toward North Africa.
Six rooms. That's it. Plaza 18 sits inside a 19th-century merchant's house in the medieval quarter of Vejer de la Frontera — and it operates more like someone's very well-appointed private home than a hotel. British interior designer Nicky Dobree spent two years restoring the 1896 building, which itself sits on the foundations of a 13th-century Arab house, filling it with pieces curated from around the world. The Califa Group, which runs the adjacent La Casa del Califa hotel, handles check-in and runs the restaurant guests eat breakfast in every morning.

Room 1 – Deluxe Double (Street Level)
Courtyard-level room with large windows looking onto the street. Compact but well-appointed with air conditioning, underfloor heating, and a stylish bathroom. One reviewer noted the bathroom was exquisite but the bed smaller than expected.
Room 2 – Deluxe Double (Town View)
Second deluxe double with windows oriented toward the town and the rolling sierras beyond. Part of the first-floor ring of rooms that circle the glass-roofed central patio.
Room 3 – Deluxe Suite
The flagship room and the one reviewers rave about most. Second-floor junior suite with a separate sitting and TV room, private terrace with views, and a king bed dressed in fine linens. The bay window opens to the street and orange trees of the plaza. The separate salon has a daybed that can be made up as a single bed. Subtle sage-green palette throughout.
Room 4 – Deluxe Double (Twin Balconies)
Second-floor room with twin balconies facing the street. Some rooms in this position overlook the 15th-century tower of the medieval walls — a striking view from bed in the morning.
Room 5 – Deluxe Double (Panoramic Views)
A light-filled second-floor room with views across town, the countryside, and the distant coastline. Bright and airy, with the same curated design sensibility as the rest of the house.
Room 6 – Duplex with Private Roof Terrace
The most unique room in the house. More compact interior spaces than Room 3, but it has something no other room does: exclusive private access to the large roof terrace with 360-degree views of Vejer, the surrounding countryside, and the coastline. Worth it for the terrace alone.

The Atlantic beaches of El Palmar and Cape Trafalgar are roughly 10km from the hotel. El Palmar is a broad surf beach; Cape Trafalgar is quieter and more scenic. The hotel can advise on getting there.
The hotel is right on Plaza de España. From here you can wander the labyrinthine cobbled streets, visit the turreted medieval walls, the Alcazaba, artisanal shops, tapas bars, and the old Arab quarter. One of Spain's most beautiful and best-preserved white hilltop villages.
Full hammam circuit at the Califa Group's traditional Arab baths. Hot/warm/cold pools, Turkish steam room, and relaxation area with mint tea. A short walk from the hotel.
The surrounding countryside of Cádiz province offers hiking and cycling routes. The Califa Group originally started as an active tourism operator running cycling routes for visitors through Andalucía.
The hotel team can arrange horse riding excursions in the surrounding area. Ask at check-in (La Casa del Califa reception).
