Book the Torre Monalda Suite well in advance — there's only one, and it's the best room in Florence for skyline views

Why It Matters

Credibly Italy's oldest hotel, first mentioned in 1386. The Torre Monalda Signature Suite sits inside one of the last surviving medieval towers in Florence. The building is the filming location of Mario Monicelli's 1975 classic 'Amici Miei'. A Michelin-starred chef concept by Paulo Airaudo (8 stars total) was scheduled to launch in June 2026.

Walk through a wine-red door on a pedestrianised Florentine street and step into what is believed to be the oldest hotel in Italy. First mentioned in 1386 as a stop for silk merchants, Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze, Colbert Collection reopened in May 2026 after a comprehensive renovation that kept original frescoes, vaulted ceilings, and the 13th-century Torre Monalda intact. It's the inaugural property of Minor Hotels' new Colbert Collection brand, and rooms go from snug 18 m² singles to a 56 m² tower suite with 360° views over the city. No pool, no gym, no spa — but you're 300 metres from the Uffizi, so priorities are in order.
