Pousada do Porto - Rua das Flores
Contemporary-historic. Think serious architecture with genuinely modern interiors — not a period recreation, but a confident renovation that leans into original stone and adds bold color. The vibe is intimate, refined, and walkable. The street outside is busy and photogenic; the hotel itself is calm.
Request a courtyard-facing room if you want maximum quiet, especially in summer when the street can get loud at night
Why It Matters
One of the few hotels in Porto's historic core that pairs genuine 18th-century bones with a serious contemporary design sensibility. Listed by both Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. The Rua das Flores address is as central as Porto gets — São Bento station is a 5-minute walk, Ribeira is under 10 minutes on foot. During the renovation, Roman archaeological remains were discovered on site. The rear façade is entirely clad in hand-placed schist scales, a traditional Porto building technique.
The Pestana group took an 18th-century building on one of Porto's oldest pedestrian streets — originally called Casa dos Brandões — and turned it into an 84-room boutique hotel that opened in October 2021. Stone walls, herringbone floors, and vaulted ceilings from the original structure coexist with saturated contemporary colors, plaster camellia ceilings by artist Iva Viana, and rippling wooden headboards. The whole place is a quiet nod to its address: flowers are everywhere in the decor, from carpet motifs to floral wallpaper on open wardrobes.
