Why It Matters
Built on and around a working rice farm, with an entire spa brand (Oryza Lab) formulated from rice grown on the property. Quinta da Comporta opened in 2019 on a rice farm that's been cultivated since 1925. Portuguese architect Miguel Câncio Martins — who spent childhood holidays here — designed everything, from the reclaimed-wood barn structures to the décor made by local artisans. The resort sits in Carvalhal village inside the Comporta natural reserve, surrounded on all sides by emerald rice paddies. A 40-metre solar-heated infinity pool faces those fields. Two 800m2 barn-like structures anchor the property: Oryza Spa on one side of the historic 'eira' threshing courtyard, the INARI restaurant on the other. Art is serious here too — a Joana Vasconcelos sculpture floats above the restaurant, and a Vhils portrait of a rice harvester marks the main facade.

Named after the traditional rice-threshing 'eira' courtyard, these rooms sit directly facing the infinity pool and rice fields. The private balcony looks out across the paddies — the best standard room view in the house. Sizes run 36–38m2, so not oversized, but the vista more than compensates.

Four of these suites offer a cosy seating area, a kitchenette, and a master bedroom with its own balcony, plus two additional private balconies looking over the garden. At ~65m2, there's genuine breathing room. A solid step up from the standard rooms for anyone wanting a proper lounge area.

Pool Villa – 3 Bedrooms
The showpiece accommodation. Four of these villas, each 300m2, are modelled on Comporta's traditional bungalow houses and come with a private pool, lounge with fireplace, fully equipped open kitchen, and private butler. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor with independent entrances; a third bedroom with a deluxe bathroom and terrace occupies the first floor. Maximum six guests.
