Quirk Hotel Richmond
Art-forward boutique with a strong sense of place. Pink accents, original local artwork in every room, reclaimed wood furniture, and natural light everywhere. Feels intentional rather than trendy — more art-school cool than flashy luxury. The lobby doubles as a genuine social hub for locals, not just hotel guests.
Request a courtyard-facing room if you're coming for a quiet weekend — street-side rooms can get traffic noise
Why It Matters
The gallery-to-hotel origin story is real, not marketing. Rotating exhibitions from Richmond artists hang in actual gallery space just off the lobby, and a percentage of bookings in certain rooms benefits Make Space, a mentorship program pairing young girls with female artists through the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. No other hotel in Richmond has this kind of authentic cultural infrastructure.
Quirk Hotel started as an art gallery. Owners Katie and Ted Ukrop opened Quirk Gallery in 2005 on Broad Street, and the hotel followed as a natural extension of that creative project. The building itself dates to 1916 — a former J.B. Mosby & Co. Dry Goods Store with Italian Renaissance bones, 13-foot ceilings, and original maple floors that have been carefully restored. Today it's 73 rooms of art-forward design in Richmond's downtown arts district, with a pink-and-white lobby that makes an impression the moment you walk in.
