1930s Art Deco with a warm, family-run personality. Think Hollywood Streamline Moderne meets Auvergne countryside — glamorous bones, approachable staff, homemade jam at breakfast.
Book a Privilège room with balcony well in advance — these sell out fast and the views over Clermont-Ferrand are the best the hotel offers
Why It Matters
One of France's last intact grand Art Deco hotel buildings, with original mosaics and ironwork from 1930. The in-house restaurant holds a Michelin star and is considered one of the top tables in the Auvergne region. The combination of genuine architectural heritage and serious gastronomy in a family-run, unpretentious setting is genuinely rare.
Hôtel Radio is a 1930s Art Deco landmark perched above Clermont-Ferrand in the quiet residential suburb of Chamalières. The building is a genuine period piece — original mosaic floors, wrought-iron fittings, triode-wave motifs, mirrors and ironwork intact. It holds 24 rooms and one of Auvergne's most celebrated Michelin-starred restaurants, run by chef Wilfrid Chaplain and owner Caroline Mioche. The hotel is small, proudly idiosyncratic, and not trying to be anything else.
