Why It Matters
First and only five-star hotel in Transylvania, opened July 2022 after converting a Communist-era building. Houses Hikari, one of very few serious Japanese restaurants in Romania, led by Chef Alex Racatau — a World Sushi Cup top-3 finisher with a black belt in sushi. Also sits steps from Cluj Arena, home to the Untold Festival main stage.
Cluj-Napoca's only five-star hotel, born from a two-year gut renovation of a 1980s building. The result is 149 contemporary rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, original artwork in every room, and dark wood furnishings that feel considered rather than corporate. Directly across from Central Park and a short walk from Cluj Arena and the Old Town, the location alone does a lot of the heavy lifting — but the Japanese restaurant and mezzanine spa genuinely surprise.
