Ran Baas The Palace
Royal heritage immersion. Sikh, Mughal, and Rajput architectural details layered together, restored obsessively rather than replicated. Think high ceilings, gemstone-themed suites, peacock chandeliers in the bar, and a breakfast served in a hall painted floor-to-ceiling with mythological murals. It's theatrical but grounded in real history.

Why It Matters
Punjab's first luxury palace hotel. Earned a Michelin One Key in its debut year. Named on the Condé Nast Traveller Hot List 2025, the Prix Versailles 2025, and recognized among the World's Most Beautiful New Hotels 2025. The restoration — led by an all-woman team — is a genuine conservation landmark, with local artisans retrained in centuries-old building techniques including traditional lime plaster and fresco restoration.
Ran Baas The Palace is Punjab's first luxury palace hotel — a 300-year-old double-courtyard complex that was once the private quarters for the queens of the Phulkian Dynasty's maharajas, sitting inside Qila Mubarak, Patiala's sprawling 10-acre 18th-century fort. The place was derelict, infested with rats, and largely untouched for six decades before Priya Paul of Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels enlisted renowned conservation architect Abha Narain Lambah to drag it back to life. What they've done is serious work: 610 chandeliers, hand-retouched frescoes, revived lime plaster araish walls, original carved wooden doors, and 35 suites — each designed differently — that open in November 2024 to immediate global acclaim.
