Rancho Caymus Inn
Spanish-California hacienda; artisan craft meets wine-country warmth. Feels more like a private estate than a hotel — intimate, courtyard-centered, visually rich.
Room 109 is the standout pick — a Premium Suite with a huge wraparound balcony and an original stained-glass bathroom window by Gaye Frisk
Why It Matters
Michelin 1-Key boutique inn with a genuine backstory: hand-built by an heiress using 19th-century barn timber, decorated with Ecuadorian textiles and original stained glass. One of the few wine country properties where you can walk to world-class tasting rooms.
Built in the 1980s by Morton Salt heiress Mary Tilden Morton, Rancho Caymus Inn is a 26-room hacienda-style inn in the heart of Rutherford — Napa Valley's most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon AVA. The bones are genuinely remarkable: timber reclaimed from a 19th-century Yorkshire barn, hand-plastered stucco walls, original stained-glass windows by Napa artist Gaye Frisk, and a 1987 ceramic tile mosaic by Guillermo Wagner Granizo overlooking the pool. After a recent restoration, it holds a Michelin 1-Key designation and sits walkable to Caymus Vineyards, Beaulieu, and Round Pond.

Two courtyard fire pits plus a large outdoor fireplace overlook the pool terrace. Available to all guests in the evenings for lingering over wine or settling in after a day of tastings. Background music piped in — relaxed retreat vibe.
The beautifully restored Morton Hall is available for private events: corporate retreats, weddings, and milestone celebrations. The inn can be booked out entirely (all 26 rooms) for group buyouts. Indoor and outdoor event spaces.
The inn promotes hot air balloon rides over Napa Valley as an organized guest activity — a popular way to take in the valley from above. Arrangements made through the concierge.
The concierge can arrange exclusive discounted or complimentary tastings at partner wineries including Honig, Beaulieu Vineyard, Inglenook, Round Pond, and Caymus Vineyards. Several are walkable. Rates vary by winery; some are complimentary when paired with a room booking.
