Why It Matters
One of the few small Tuscan relais where the private spa experience is actually built into the room itself — not a shared facility down the hall. The property has been Papi family-owned since the 1700s. Recognized by Michelin Guide, Tablet Hotels, Virtuoso, and TripAdvisor Hall of Fame. Chef Giuseppe Masciopinto, who trained in Michelin-recognized restaurants, runs the kitchen.
An 18th-century Tuscan farmhouse estate still owned by the Papi family — now run by David and his mother Gabriella — that has been carefully restored to a 5-star luxury relais. Sixteen rooms and suites spread across the main villa and two converted stone outbuildings (an old granary and stable), sitting in 2 hectares of grounds about 6km outside Cortona. The spa comes to you: most rooms have a full private wellness suite built in, with Turkish baths, multi-sensory showers, and Jacuzzis. Dinner in the old cellar or poolside under the Tuscan stars.
