Riad 72
Moroccan architecture with a confident Italian design sensibility. Ornate but not fussy — carved ceilings, tadelakt walls, contemporary art, and massive beds sit alongside Bose speakers and Dyson hair dryers. The atmosphere is calm and adult (12+ only), with candlelit evenings in the restaurant and cocktails at sunset on the rooftop.
Ask for a suite-level room for the private jacuzzi and panoramic terrace — the Atlas Mountain views from the Junior Suite or Arte Suite at sunset are exceptional.
Why It Matters
One of the highest rooftops in the Marrakech medina — a rare distinction rooted in its historical ties to Pasha El Glaoui. Member of both Tablet Hotels and Smith Hotels collections. Italian-owned since 2001, with a growing in-house spa (WA Hammam & Spa) and destination restaurant (La Table du Riad) that draws non-guests. The property has scaled from four rooms to fourteen without losing its intimate, house-party feel.
Riad 72 is a 14-room Italian-owned riad in the Bab Doukkala district of Marrakech's medina, operating since 2001 from a 1920s palace that once belonged to a close friend of Pasha El Glaoui. The interiors fuse traditional Moroccan tadelakt plasterwork and zellige tilework with an Italian design eye — think Art Deco accents, bold colours, and oversized beds — across two central courtyards. The building is exceptionally tall by medina standards (a historical privilege connected to the Pasha), which means the rooftop Dolce Far Niente Sky Lounge has 360° views stretching from the Medina rooftops all the way to the Atlas Mountains.
