ROKU KYOTO LXR HOTELS & RESORTS
Modern Japanese resort with ryokan-influenced tranquility. Designed by BLINK Design Group's Clint Nagata, each zone has its own Kyoto craft theme: karakami (woodblock paper) in the guest rooms, lacquer in the arrival hall, bamboo motifs throughout the restaurant, ceramics in the spa. Floor-to-ceiling glass everywhere keeps the mountains permanently in frame.

Why It Matters
Hilton's flagship LXR property in Asia-Pacific. The only Kyoto luxury hotel with a natural hot-spring outdoor thermal pool. On the grounds of the historic Shozan Resort, which supplies the onsen water. Ranked 26th in La Liste Top 1000 Hotels 2026; Forbes Travel Guide 5-star 2026; 1 Michelin Key 2025.
ROKU KYOTO sits in the Takagamine foothills of northern Kyoto, on a site with 400-plus years of artistic heritage — this was where the legendary Rinpa school artist Hon'ami Koetsu established an artists' village in the 17th century. The Tenjin River flows through the grounds. It opened in 2021 as Hilton's first LXR property in all of Asia-Pacific, and no other city hotel in Kyoto gives you a natural hot-spring pool you can use year-round. The concept is 'Dive into Kyoto' — meaning deep Kyoto, the quieter north rather than the tourist-thick Higashiyama. You're 30 minutes from Kyoto Station, which is either a feature or a flaw depending on your itinerary.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Pottery workshop using soil from the hotel's own grounds. Connects directly to the Rinpa artistic tradition that originated in this part of Kyoto.
The ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold and lacquer, turning cracks into features rather than flaws. A hands-on workshop teaching the technique.
A newer addition to the activity program — hands-on weaving inspired by Kyoto's textile heritage.
Traditional Japanese paper-making using water drawn from the Tenjin River — the same river that flows through the hotel grounds and was historically used for paper-making since the Heian period. A genuinely place-specific experience.
Authentic tea ceremony held at the historic teahouse on the Shozan Resort grounds — a teahouse relocated from Kyoto's revered Daitokuji Temple, surrounded by Kitayama cedars and seasonal maple. The setting alone is worth the experience.
Families with older children can follow a secret map to find hidden items around the resort grounds — a thoughtful way to get kids engaged with the property's natural and cultural landscape.
Hotel guests have free access to the Shozan Resort's extensive northern gardens — a favorite among guests. Walking paths lead through Kitayama cedar groves, past bonsai gardens, and along the Tenjin River. The bonsai garden near Aman Kyoto is reportedly a highlight.
Every Saturday night, TENJIN The Bar hosts live artist performances. A relaxed way to close out the evening with cocktails, music, and views of the illuminated water basin.
