Zum Klosterbräu
Authentic Bavarian country inn with genuine multi-generational character. Rustic but elevated — creaking floors in the budget Pilgerhaus wing, Jura-marble bathrooms in the suites. Not a sleek design hotel, not a theme-park version of Bavaria. The real thing.

Why It Matters
One of Germany's most celebrated family-run country hotels. Ten consecutive generations of the Böhm family, a Michelin-recommended restaurant that also won Der Feinschmecker's 'Gasthaus des Jahres' award for 2025, and a 30,000 sqm monastery park that supplies the kitchen. The hotel has belonged to the Romantik Hotels collection and is listed by Tablet Hotels.
Run by the Böhm family for ten generations since 1744, Zum Klosterbräu sits in the former monastery village of Bergen inside the Altmühltal Nature Park — about 8km outside the town of Neuburg an der Donau. The entire listed-building ensemble has grown through the centuries, and you can feel it: a cross-vaulted lobby, an open fire in the historic Malztenne malting barn, rooms furnished with solid wood, and a 3-hectare monastery park with over 100 fruit varieties. The kitchen is the real draw. The Historische Gaststuben date to 1565, the restaurant holds a Michelin recommendation, and Der Feinschmecker named it 'Gasthaus des Jahres' in 2025.
