Why It Matters

A 15th-century hunting castle on the glassy shores of Lake Fuschl, about 13 miles east of Salzburg, that Rosewood completely overhauled and reopened in July 2024. The castle dates to 1461 — it was built for the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg — and became a hotel after World War II. Three design firms, including Austrian-based Bauer Stahl Architecture, handled the redesign, which layered hand-painted armoires, mounted antlers, Renaissance paintings, and locally sourced furnishings over a thoroughly modern bones. The result is 98 rooms, suites, and lakefront chalets that look historically rooted but feel unmistakably contemporary.

Located in the historic castle tower, this signature suite features original architectural elements including stand-alone tub and heritage details. Deluxe Lakeside Suite
A spacious lake-facing suite with a separate entrance hallway, guest WC, and a distinct living area with curated furnishings. The bedroom opens onto a private terrace with direct lake views.
