Why It Matters

One of Dinard's most historically characterful hotels, built in 1892 in a town that was essentially invented by British aristocrats. The per-floor travel themes — British Indian Ocean on the ground floor, Ocean Liner on the first, Orient Express on the second, Aviation on the third — give it a coherent and committed identity that most boutique hotels attempt and few pull off.

Built in 1892 and sitting 50 metres from Dinard's main Écluse beach, the Royal Émeraude is the kind of place that feels genuinely rooted in the town's golden era of Belle Époque seaside hospitality. The architecture mimics a grand ocean liner, and that travel-through-time theme runs all the way through four floors of rooms styled after transatlantic liners, the Orient Express, and early aviation. Part of Accor's MGallery boutique collection, it's a small property — 46 rooms and suites — so the atmosphere is more country-house hotel than resort. There is no pool, rooms are compact, and the smallest start at just 19m².

Deluxe Room

At 22m², the Deluxe rooms are themed after either an ocean liner, the Orient Express, or aviation. Pick your era. They're still snug, but the décor genuinely commits — think dark wood paneling, porthole mirrors, or aeronautical prints. Bathroom with shower or bathtub.

Junior Suite Aviation

Under the eaves on the top floor, this 33m² suite leans fully into the aviation world — inspired by aviator Roland Garros who was associated with the Plage de l'Écluse. There's a queen-size bed, a proper lounge area with minibar, and a bathtub in the bathroom. The sloped ceilings add character, not claustrophobia.

Suite with Terrace and Sea View

The best rooms in the house at 37m²+. Two of them exist, and both have a private terrace with direct views over Écluse Beach. One sits on the first floor with an ocean liner theme; another on the second floor has a bow window and balcony. King-size bed, premium bathroom. Worth the premium for the sea views alone.

British Indian Ocean aesthetic on the ground floor. At 20m² these aren't big, but they come with a private terrace — ideal on a sunny Brittany afternoon. Most are on the ground floor, which means easy access but less of a view. Bathroom with shower or bathtub.
