Book the early 12:30 transfer arrival to maximize your first afternoon game drive — the 16:00 arrival means you miss it.

Why It Matters

One of only two places in the world where white lions roam freely. Malaria-free Big Five reserve just 3.5 hours from Cape Town. Owned by a non-profit — every guest dollar funds conservation. San rock art sites dating back over 3,500 years. Unique sunset boat safari on Bellair Dam.

Sanbona is one of South Africa's largest privately-owned nature reserves — 62,000 hectares of Little Karoo wilderness about 3.5 hours from Cape Town along Route 62. It's not one lodge but three distinct properties: Dwyka Tented Lodge for couples, Gondwana Family Lodge for families, and the stately Tilney Manor for those who want colonial-style grandeur. Every rand you spend goes straight into conservation, since the reserve is now owned and operated by the non-profit CALEO Foundation.
