Niseko
Sleek, contemporary Japanese minimalism — clean lines and 'Wa' philosophy (harmony of natural materials and balance). More design hotel than traditional ryokan. International crowd, heavy ski season focus, quieter and more serene in summer.
Book Sushi Shin well in advance — it's a tiny counter restaurant and fills up fast, especially in peak ski season
Why It Matters
Awarded one Michelin Key in both 2024 and 2025. Houses Sushi Shin by Miyakawa — the Niseko outpost of Sapporo's three-Michelin-star Sushi Miyakawa. Toshiro's Bar has been named Niseko's Best Bar three consecutive years. Gold Level winner at the MUSE Hotel Awards 2022 for architecture and interior design.
Sansui Niseko is a ski-in/ski-out boutique hotel that opened in 2023 in Upper Hirafu Village, right on the main street of Niseko's most popular ski area. Rooms are apartment-sized — from 25 sqm studios to a 315 sqm four-bedroom penthouse — all done in a cool monochrome palette of black, white, and grey with warm wood accents and floor-to-ceiling mountain views. The property stacked three full floors of amenities including a natural onsen fed by Niseko mountain springs, a Michelin-pedigreed sushi counter, and a cult cocktail bar run by one of Niseko's most revered bartenders.
