A 19th-century Mallorcan palace turned 42-room boutique hotel, planted squarely on Plaza Sant Francesc in Palma's old town. Built in 1860 for the Alomar Femenia family — the same dynasty behind Barcelona's Hotel Majestic — it was converted and opened in 2015. Owner Andrés Soldevila Ferrer stripped the interior to near-monochrome minimalism, letting original ceiling frescoes, wood-beamed ceilings, and neoclassical mouldings do the heavy lifting against designer furniture by Antonio Citterio, Piero Lissoni, and Jaime Hayón. The stables became Quadrat Restaurant, the old cistern a 24-hour gym, and the watchtower a sui generis suite with a private rooftop jacuzzi.

The hotel's most unusual room, built into what was the mansion's original watchtower and dovecote. 60 sqm spread over three levels. Neutral, elegant with whitewashed roof beams, egg-shaped bathtub, walk-in shower, and its own perfume bar. The private rooftop terrace has sun-beds, seating for alfresco dining, and an outdoor whirlpool tub for two — with panoramic views across Palma's cathedral and the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Book the Privilege Room and Junior Suite on the same floor and the whole floor is yours.
