Lucknow
Colonial Art Deco heritage with deep Nawabi character. Hand-carved headboards, antique doors with chikan block handles, mosaic floors, Chikan-embroidered cushions, and wooden latticework passageways connecting candlelit courtyards. Feels like a well-restored family estate, not a polished chain hotel.
Book a Heritage Suite (500 sq ft) or Imperial Suite (550 sq ft) — the standard Awadh and Residency rooms are genuinely compact, and some reviewers found them smaller than expected
Why It Matters
Lucknow's only Michelin Guide-listed heritage hotel, occupying a genuine 1936 Art Deco bungalow on the Mall Avenue. Azrak, the signature restaurant, is recognized as the city's best Awadhi dining destination. The Olive Spa is built around a living Saraca tree — that kind of detail tells you what kind of place this is.
This 1936 colonial bungalow was converted into a luxury boutique hotel in 2016 and sat under the name Lebua Lucknow until 2024, when it was rebranded Saraca — named after the century-old Ashoka trees standing across its 70,000-sq-ft estate. Forty-one rooms and suites all open onto something: a courtyard, a tiled terrace, bougainvillaea-draped gardens. That indoor-outdoor flow is the hotel's whole identity, carrying forward the Nawabi haveli spirit that defined aristocratic Lucknow for centuries. It's also home to Azrak, which won 'Best Restaurant of Lucknow' at the Food Connoisseurs Awards 2024.
