Satri House
Colonial Indochine heritage; regal but not stiff — think polished hardwood floors, antiques from across Southeast Asia, four-poster beds with billowing mosquito nets, and lily ponds outside the window. The vibe is a private home where someone interesting once lived.

Why It Matters
One of only a handful of hotels in Luang Prabang with two swimming pools — the UNESCO protected zone prevents most properties from building them. The compound was literally a royal residence; the original 1904 colonial mansion is still intact. Named 'Satri' (meaning 'House of Women' in Lao) by the female owner, who is also behind a silk weaving cultural enterprise in town.
A 1904 French colonial mansion that started life as the royal residence of Prince Bounkhong and later became the childhood home of Prince Souphanouvong — Laos' first president and the so-called Red Prince. Owner Lamphoune Voravongsa bought the property after 30 years in France and turned it into what is arguably the most atmospheric place to stay in Luang Prabang. The original whitewashed house is the anchor of the compound, with the Satri House Suites occupying its original rooms, while newer colonial-style buildings fan out around lotus ponds and manicured gardens. Everything is antiques, dark teak four-poster beds, silk cushions, and a sense that the 20th century never really arrived.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel can arrange a roundtrip airport shuttle (surcharge applies). Taxis from the airport are also available independently for around US$6.
Complimentary bicycles available from the front desk — first come, first served. Can't be reserved in advance. A gentle ride into the old town takes about 10-15 minutes; ideal for exploring the temples, markets, and Mekong promenade at your own pace.
The hotel's private Satri Boat is moored on the Mekong and departs for sunset cruises typically on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons. Drinks and canapes on the open upper deck as the sun goes down over the river. The boat also has 5 cabins for groups wanting an overnight or multi-day Mekong journey.
The front desk can arrange guided tours of Luang Prabang's temples, the Royal Palace Museum, Pak Ou Caves, and Kuang Si waterfalls. Electric bike half-day tours ('no temples' option available for those who've had their fill) can also be arranged.
The grounds include a pétanque court — a very Indochine touch. A relaxed way to fill an afternoon between the pool and dinner.
In partnership with the Khang silk studio (at 24 Sackarine Road, Ban Xiengmouane), Satri House offers access to weaving and natural dyeing workshops. Half-day sessions to multi-month courses available; the weaving studio accommodates up to 4 people for weaving or 6 for natural dyeing. A meaningful cultural activity tied directly to the hotel's heritage mission.
Amenities & Practical Info
The details that matter for planning.
Complimentary WiFi in the lobby, bar, by the pools, library, gardens, and spa. Signal can be intermittent in some guest rooms.
Babysitting available at a surcharge. Children under 3 stay free. The hotel has a children's menu.
A curated library on the property — a quiet retreat on a hot afternoon.
Two tiled outdoor pools — the main pool sits in the shade of the original 1904 royal house at the front of the compound; the newer, second pool is closer to the spa complex. Having two pools is genuinely unusual in Luang Prabang because the UNESCO protected zone rules prevent most hotels from building them. Satri House sits just outside the zone.
All guest rooms include a minibar/mini-fridge.
All rooms have both air conditioning and ceiling fans.
Laundry and dry cleaning services available (at a surcharge — noted by guests as on the expensive side compared to town options).
Available 24 hours, though after 10pm the menu shifts to a more limited selection of Lao classics and western snacks.
A small boutique selling items including silk dressing gowns (which guests can also use in-room and purchase at reception). Also showcases Lao silks and local crafts.
Roundtrip airport shuttle to Luang Prabang International Airport (approx 6.5 km), available at a surcharge.
Complimentary on-site parking available.
