Schloss Schauenstein
Alpine castle grandeur meets unforced intimacy. Romanesque archways, historic tiled stoves, and panelled suites sit alongside Bang & Olufsen TVs and freestanding tubs. Formal enough to feel special, relaxed enough not to be stiff.

Why It Matters
Home to Switzerland's only 3-Michelin-star restaurant, run by Andreas Caminada and co-chef Marcel Skibba. The cuisine draws almost entirely from Graubünden produce — lake trout, sea buckthorn, lamb belly — rooted in French haute cuisine technique but with a firmly Alpine identity. Tasting menus from CHF 266 for 3 courses. Rooms from CHF 610 including breakfast.
A 13th-century ivy-clad castle sitting in Fürstenau — officially the world's smallest city — in the Domleschg valley of canton Graubünden. Chef-owner Andreas Caminada turned a vacant ruin into Switzerland's defining fine-dining address, holding 3 Michelin stars since 2010, 19 GaultMillau points, and a place on the World's 50 Best list. Twelve individually furnished rooms spread across the castle, the neighbouring Meierhaus, and the newly added Seidenhaus; but the food is the reason you come.
