Schlosshotel Münchhausen duplicate
Weser Renaissance grandeur meets understated luxury. Antiques, parquet floors, and individually decorated rooms in the main castle contrast with the brighter, more contemporary Tithe Barn rooms across the courtyard. Romantic, unhurried, and very German in the best sense.
Book dinner at HILMAR well in advance — it only seats guests Wednesday through Saturday from 18:00 and fills up fast, especially on weekends.
Why It Matters
One of Germany's few genuinely medieval castle hotels still in active family ownership. Restaurant HILMAR earned a Michelin star within just three months of opening in late 2023 and retained it in 2025. The hotel also received three Gault&Millau toques, recognition from the Falstaff Hotel Guide, and ranked 2nd nationally for castle hotels in the 2025 Connoisseur Circle awards.
A 16th-century Weser Renaissance castle in a nature park, Schlosshotel Münchhausen is Germany's most celebrated castle hotel. Lovingly restored in 2004, it sits within an 8-hectare English landscape park and holds a Michelin-starred restaurant, an 800 m² spa, and two 18-hole golf courses right on the doorstep. The castle itself dates to 1570 — named for Hilmar von Münchhausen, the same family as the legendary Baron — and the entire property carries that weight of history without feeling stiff or museum-like.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The 8-hectare castle park is one of the earliest English landscape gardens in Germany. Free access for all guests. Includes a moat, lake (Schlossteich), rose garden, and the historic Pineapple Pavilion — the pineapple is actually the hotel's logo, a nod to when Peter the Great visited to see the castle's famed orangery.
The famous Rat Catcher city of Hameln is 10 km away — a popular half-day excursion. On summer Sundays at noon, actors perform the Pied Piper story in the old town.
Two full 18-hole golf courses directly adjacent to the castle grounds (Hamelner Golfclub e.V., approx. 300m away). Both courses are distinctive in layout. Golf packages available including green fees and accommodation. One of the strongest golf hotel propositions in Lower Saxony.
Direct access to trails in the Weser Highlands Nature Park from the castle grounds. The wooded region is suited to both easy walks and longer day hikes.
An annual summer festival held on the castle grounds in August featuring classical music, jazz, and swing concerts performed in front of the illuminated castle. For 2026, scheduled for August 20–23. Special overnight packages available combining accommodation, multi-course dinners, and concert tickets.
Complimentary use of Mercedes e-bikes for guests, subject to availability. Good for exploring the surrounding Weserbergland Nature Park.
