Why It Matters
The pineapple greenhouse plunge pool is one of the most distinctive hotel features in the Azores. The Tranquility Garden Lodges — wooden cabins on stilts modelled on 19th-century grain storehouses — have an outdoor bath and total forest seclusion. Sustainability credentials are real: 60% of power from photovoltaic and solar panels, 80% of building materials locally sourced, and all bath products made by a local Azorean soap maker.
A converted 18th-century farm on the outskirts of Ponta Delgada, rebuilt by owner Joana Damião into a 35-room boutique hotel on 3 hectares of lush grounds. The rooms lean heavily into nature — dark hardwoods, floor-to-ceiling photographic murals of Azorean flora, balconies facing the gardens. The standout feature is the working pineapple greenhouse, which houses a heated plunge pool. It sits about 4 km from central Ponta Delgada, close enough for a quick taxi but far enough to feel genuinely removed.

Deluxe Double
Eleven rooms on the first floor — the upgrade from Standard. These are genuinely spacious, with a small living area carved out within the room, a bathroom with shower (not bathtub), and a balcony with garden/pool views or a patio outlook. Dark hardwood finishes and rich green tones throughout.
Family Suite
One suite built for families without compromise. A king-bed master bedroom plus a separate room with bunk beds (two beds), a bathroom with both shower and bathtub, a living room with sofa bed, a dining area, and balconies looking out over the pool and garden. Kids have their own space; parents have theirs.
Junior Suite
One suite only, and it earns the name. A very generous balcony runs the full length of the bedroom and living room, with a panoramic view over the farm. Comes stocked with minibar, coffee machine, electric kettle, and USB connections — the extras you notice when you don't have them.
KingStandard Double
The most plentiful room category (16 rooms), ground floor. Spacious enough to include a corner seating area. Bathroom has a bathtub. Terrace options vary — some look out to the garden and pool, others access an interior patio with a water refreshment tank. Wall-sized nature murals by local Azorean photographers are a signature design feature across all rooms.
Standard Mini Double
Three rooms on the ground floor, each with a small private terrace facing the garden. Full bathroom with bathtub. These rooms are connected to same or higher category rooms, making them convenient for groups or families who want to be adjacent.
Standard Single
The only single room in the house, sitting on the ground floor at 22m². Has a bedroom, a small bathroom with bathtub, and access to a shared internal courtyard with a refreshment tank. A solid option for a solo traveller who doesn't need much space.

Tranquility Garden Lodge
Two standalone wooden cabins built entirely from timber and set on stilts, modelled on the old 'cafuões' grain storehouses that once stood on this farm. The bathroom has an open-air shower and bathtub — fully exposed to the surrounding jungle of banana trees and lush greenery, which provides natural cover from rain. Bedroom has direct access to a private balcony overlooking the farm. These are the most distinctive and secluded rooms on the property. Advance booking is essential.
